Chapter Fourteen – Kalia

I felt content and wasn’t even sure where we were going, as Nick held my hand firmly and led me through the crowd. Some of them headed for the diner, and the others were walking back into the town.

The confrontation had been intense, and at one point I was shaking with rage and adrenaline, I’d been rather shocked when my body immediately calmed when I was encased in Nick’s arms, and I drowned in his scent as I sniffed his chest.

He wanted me. Not just to fuck, but he wanted to know me, and was okay with the idea of me having a career, instead of sitting around safely at home for him to return. When he’d held me tightly, and calmed me, I’d felt cherished, safe, and cared for. It was too early, but I already trembled and felt vulnerable inside at the thought of this not working between us. He was so much more than I’d ever expected, or that I could’ve hoped for. I’d wanted to find a mate that cherished me, loved me, like my father loved and cherished my mother. I hadn’t cared much about the rest of it, but I’d found a powerful alpha with great control and a morality that matched my own.

We still had to get to know each other better, but unless he turned into an asshole, I doubted he could chase me away at this point. That wouldn’t happen, it wasn’t in his scent.

Nick said, “Lavender, a moment?”

I looked up at him curiously, I knew he was wary of the fae.

Lavender smiled, and she brushed her long straight ash-blonde hair behind one of her ears. She covered those up inside the diner, and fae could pass for human outside of the ears… Mostly.

“What is it?”

Nick cleared his throat, “I was just wondering. I know that if we mate you can help us have kids?”

I suppressed a gasp, and felt a little thrill go down my spine. He was already thinking about kids?

Lavender smiled wider, “I can. It’s one of my favorite tasks. Shifter races aren’t as far apart as you’d think, it’s a minor matter and much easier than a mage and shifter is.”

Nick nodded, “I was wondering about the shifter mate bond, can you help us with that, I mean if we do decide to mate?”

Damn, my heart pounded, and I held my breath to hear the answer to that. I was also turned on by the fact he wanted to know the answers to those questions. He wanted to bond as mates? He wanted children? With me? My pussy tingled, and my nipples got hard at the thought. Fuck, apparently I wanted kids even more than I’d thought, or maybe just with him.

Lavender frowned in thought, and then said, “Not me. That’s based in your magic, not in your biology. I bet Portia or Jason could trick it and weave your magic together. There might be some risk involved though, they’d have to play with your magic to figure out how to do it.
